The Afrolantica Series takes its inspirations from the work of legal scholar and Critical Race Theory pioneer Derrick Bell, particularly his concept Afrolantica—a symbolic land imagined as a space where Black people might live beyond the constraints of anti-Black racism.
In Bell's narrative, Afrolantica ultimately reveals that liberation is not simply about escaping oppression, but about awakening to the deeper struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination wherever one stands. Drawing on this insight, the Afrolantica Series explores questions of race, power, identity, and liberation through essays, talks, and conversations grounded in Africana existential thought.
Drawing on the Africana Critical Race Framework (ACRF™️), the series engages questions of coloniality, identity, and psychological life within contemporary society.
